Author, poet and naturalist
Eugene C Bianchi (1930-2022) was Professor of Religion Emeritus at Emory University, Atlanta. He joined the Society of Jesus in 1948, and writing was an important part of his 20-year life as a Jesuit. In 1963 he became assistant editor of America magazine in New York, and he joined Emory University in 1968. His collections of poetry include Ear to the Ground (2013), Chewing Down My Barn (2014), The Hum of it All (2017) and Interbeing (2021). Gene’s home was near the Oconee River in Athens, Georgia, shared with his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Herrman.
